People were lining the streets of Amsterdam selling just about anything you could imagine, and trains had to be shut down because people were partying on the tracks.

Everyone wears orange, drinks in the streets, parties on boats and there are free concerts all over the country (we saw Tiesto in museumplein in Amsterdam). This night/day event deserves its own post, but basically it was a 30 hour party for the Queen`s birthday. Mom and Nana, you would have loved it – I will post pictures when I do another post.Īpril 29/30 – Konninginenacht-Konninginedag, Den Haag/Amsterdam. Kim, Alex, Sasha and I ventured to Keukenhof one Wednesday to see the beautiful flowers in bloom, I have never seen so many tulips in one place. The wheel lasted us for about a month, and we had many cheese-themed dinners in the weeks following this party.Īpril 28 – Keukenhof, flower gardens just outside Leiden. We had a party, played with the cheese (involved rolling it on the ground, drawing a face on it, making a wheel of cheese drinking game etc.) and then devoured it. 92 euros later we walked away from the market with almost 10 kilograms of extra belegen gouda (aged gouda). Mike got the idea a while back that it we should buy a wheel of cheese (that`s right, an entire wheel) and have a party to celebrate the cheese. Ended up at Odessa`s, again.Īpril 17 – Kaas Party in Leiden. Day drinking ensued, along with yummy burgers and an aggressive game of flip cup (Americans vs. It was a week of surprise parties – that Friday we threw Alex a surprise BBQ (theme? Hick/Dirt American, of course). It was sloppy as all 21st birthdays should be (especially for Americans – yay for legal drinking!) Ended the night at Odessa`s, as is common for us most nights.Īpril 16 – Alex`s 22nd Birthday celebration in Leiden. Sasha turned 21 so we threw her a surprise cocktail party in the common room. Didn`t get home til 5am so it was definitely a successful night.Īpril 13 – Sasha`s 21st Birthday celebration in Leiden. That night, Heather, Lonnie and I went in to meet up with Heather`s friend on exchange there, and we had one of our first tastes of the Amsterdam nightlife. A throwback to our not-so-long-ago childhood, we all had a genuinely great time and everyone left the park happy. The International Student Network organized a day trip to Efteling and of course a day at an amusement park interested us, so we hopped on a train and spent the day riding roller coasters, cruising around a lake and walking through magical forests. Definitely one of the craziest nights here/anywhere.Īpril 09 – Efteling, an amusement park in Holland and one of the oldest in the world (open since 1952). The k-straat crew hit up the biggest trance rave in the world and partied through the night, from 11pm til 730am when we stumbled back to the train station, finally crawling into our beds at 930am.

I will get to posting an entry for Sweden and Norway (along with lots of pics) because the trip deserves to be recounted, however I thought I would do a brief overview of April and May now just to keep everyone (realistically the 5 people that read this) up to date with what I`ve been up to the past 2 months.Īpril 03 – Trance Energy in Utrecht, Netherlands. I still have to recount the stories of Sweden and Norway (from March) and then there are the past 2 months – April was a month during which we explored (at least parts of) Holland, and May has been the month of visitors and a quick trip to London, England and Spain (I am currently in Barcelona, heading to Madrid tonight on an overnight bus).

So as my lovely friend Lauren pointed out, I am quite behind on my blogging.
